Happy Zero Discrimination Day!
Australia, a founding member of the UN and an active participant in UN institutions for 70 years, is also the 12th largest contributor to the UN regular and peacekeeping budgets. Therefore, it is imperative to show the rest of the world that we say no to all inequalities – whether based on gender, income, race, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or religion.
Zero Discrimination Day is an annual event celebrated on 1 March by the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations. The day aims to promote equality before the law and in practice across all member countries of the UN.
Zero Discrimination Day calls on everyone to “make some noise around zero discrimination, to speak up and prevent discrimination from hindering the achievement of ambitions, goals, and dreams,” ultimately striving to end discrimination, stigmatization, and criminalization. It challenges institutions and influential individuals not only to be non-discriminatory but also to actively oppose discrimination.
At St Edward’s College, we endeavor to instill these values in our students, treating each other as equals, promoting diversity, and recognising the worth of every individual. We encourage everyone to advocate for inclusion, compassion, and positive change.
