Environment Portfolio
The Environment portfolio have organised a TerraCycle Masks Zero Waste Box to be introduced and used at the College.
This initiative is for all staff and students to recycle their masks with the intention of having a positive impact and to reduce waste being sent to landfill.
Everything collected through the Zero Waste Box system is sorted and processed into raw materials that can be reused instead of being sent to landfill.
Thank you to the College executive and our Maintenance Manager Mr Claridge for their support in this initiative.

Year 7 Agriculture
Year 7 Agriculture has kicked off with a bang this year.
With online lessons in 2021 reducing the amount of practical work and the consistent rain and sunshine, what better way to kick off the year then to plant seeds, propagate cuttings and grow some vegetables and herbs.
In Year 7 Technology students spend time in both wood and metal workshops constructing a planter box and while the boys are in the workshops their vegetables and herbs have time to grow. From basil and rosemary to carrots and radishes the students care for and map the growth of their plants throughout Semester 1.

News From the English Faculty
The English Department is excited to welcome three new teachers this year. We welcome Mr Anderson, Ms Atayde and Mr Neve to our team and pray that their time teaching at St Edward’s is enriching and rewarding.
We celebrate the success of our outgoing class of 2021 boys and wish them well in the next chapter of their lives.
As 2022 begins we welcome Year 7 and they have had fun immersing themselves in their library lessons where they will enjoy sustained reading lessons once a fortnight.
[smallgallery fooid="35331"]
Year 8 are studying crime fiction and will create digital stories this term. Year 9 are busily delving into a study of documentaries and next term will have the pleasure of seeing ‘Macbeth’ on stage at the Seymour Centre. Year 10 are studying drama texts with some classes studying ‘Henry V’ and others studying contemporary Australian plays. Year 10 will have the opportunity to be involved in an enrichment day later in the year.
Our senior students have all started the year well and are studying Reading to Write, Education and the World of Work, or Texts, Values and Culture depending on the course of English they have undertaken. Our Year 12 students are studying the Craft of Writing and will have an incursion with some Performance Poets later in the year. We love celebrating the creativity and clever ideas our students bring to English.

Students were asked to create a digital presentation to be shown at the Sydney Festival 'Antidote'. In their presentation, students were required to discuss George Orwell’s novel ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ with a specific focus on his representation of freedom as an essential element of the human experience.
The students task was to closely examine the novel, and to find a related text which either reinforced or challenged Orwell's representation of freedom. An outstanding example was produced by Fergus Clydesdale.

Touch Football Report
Open Touch Football - BBSSSA Gala Day
The open team contested the Broken Bay event on Wednesday 16 February at Doyalson RSL Playing Fields.
The team played pool games against St Peter’s Catholic College (winning 4-0), Mater Maria Catholic College (winning 4-3) and St Leo’s Catholic College (5-2). The combinations between the boys slowly built throughout the round games with some slick tries scored. As a team we spoke about tightening up our defence that was leaking some soft tries.
In the finals, we played St Augustine’s Catholic College in the semi-final (winning 5-2) and Mater Maria Catholic College again in the grand final winning 3-1. The result meant that we were crowned Broken Bay Champions. A fantastic achievement by a very talented group of young men. The results reflected the team’s ability to control the tempo and flow of the game, with the boys rarely troubled throughout the day.
The day also doubled as a selection for the Broken Bay team to contest the NSWCCC trials in late March at Nelson’s Bay. We had six boys selected in the Possible’s V Probable’s game. Sebastian Plaister, Kieran Diamond, Joel Shereb and Sean Bullen made the team.

Opal Card Information
School Student Travel Term 1, 2022
School Travel Passes
Students who need a School Opal card or travel pass but have not yet applied need to apply or update their details as soon as possible.
In the Opal network, students should travel with a Child/Youth Opal card until they receive their valid School Opal card. If outside Greater Sydney, parents should contact their local bus operator to discuss their travel needs.
New Student Opal cards (including new Term Bus Passes) will be sent to the student’s nominated postal address within two weeks of their application being approved.
Students living in rural and regional (R&R) areas will receive their travel pass from their nominated transport operator. It may be issued via their school or be sent directly to them at home. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
Terms of Use
Students using Opal cards must tap on and tap off in line with the Opal terms of use.
All students are required to comply with the Student code of conduct. The code of conduct aims to ensure the safety and well-being of school children and other passengers. It is important that parents ensure their child is aware of this, as failure to comply with the code of conduct can result in a suspension from travel.
