Special People in our Lives Year 7 Liturgy
On Friday 10 May, Year 7 gathered with many of their family members to celebrate the special people in their lives.
Each core class presented an item that captured the importance of those people who have assisted their growth and development. It was a wonderful occasion that was followed by a beautiful morning tea.
Many thanks to all who assisted in preparing for this gathering and for the boys who performed so admirably on the day.

Year 12 Retreats at Winbourne, Mulgoa
The retreats of 2024 will be remembered for the great enthusiasm and involvement of all students who attended.
Year 12 were given the opportunity to participate in important spiritual experiences on their three day Retreat amid the peaceful and serene environment of the Mulgoa Retreat Centre. They didn’t waste this opportunity.
Thanks to the staff from our College for their dedication to the Retreat program. Many staff from the College were instrumental in leading the boys through reflection, prayer, bushwalks and discussions about ‘Relationships and Consent', ‘What it is to be a Man in the 21st Century’, ‘Goal Setting’, ‘The Importance of Communication’, and their future directions. The celebration liturgy organised by the students was very special as it is the last Retreat for this cohort. Parents and staff should be very proud of the input and maturity shown by Year 12.
Our guest speakers for the retreat were Mrs Connor, Ms Evans, Mrs Abbott-Atchison and Miss Beagin. They all spoke brilliantly and the boys were left with a lot to think about. Their talk was informative and inspiring and was well received by the students.
I am confident that these quality experiences will have a lasting effect upon our boys in preparing them for the future. I have no doubt that in years to come, many boys will remember these few days as being very significant in their lives. I thank and congratulate all Year 12 for the quality of their involvement.
The staff at Mulgoa were lavish in their praise of these fine young men from St Edward's. They could not speak highly enough of their positive attitude, friendliness, cooperation, courtesy, and willingness to enter completely into the spirit of the Retreat. A typical comment about the boys was, “I can’t get over how well rounded they are, probably because they have been exposed to a variety of social justice experiences.” This particular group is a great credit to their families and the College.
A special thank you to Mr Sullivan the Year 12 Pastoral Leader and Mrs Palmer-Brown our Leader of Learning Religious Education, for all the great work they did during these important days of review and reflection.

First Place in NSW – Success in French!
This semester, the French department has been very successful as St Edward’s won the NSW French Education Perfect competition!
St Edward’s came fourth, out of 868 schools in Australia - New Zealand, which represents a huge achievement for the College. The students must be congratulated on the time they spent competing for the school and also on their dedication to achieve as high a score as they could. Some of our students spent over twenty hours to help our school win!
During Francophonie week, which is celebrated worldwide, putting forward French speaking countries, Year 8 and Year 10 students completed a research task on French speaking countries and were interested in discovering new cultures. They were surprised when they realised that so many countries have French as their national language.
Year 9 French students must be congratulated on their participation in the Francophonie week as their enthusiasm for the language and its culture enabled St Edward's to win the Australian prize of the best short video organised by the company Franceathome.
Our Year 11 French students played a board game in French with questions related to global French communities.
The French faculty staff are very proud of everyone’s achievement and look forward to seeing the boys develop their French language skills over the coming months.

College Athletics Carnival
Annual Athletics Carnival 2024
The College will be conducting our Athletics carnival on Friday 31 May at Adcock Park, West Gosford. It is compulsory for all boys to attend and rolls will be taken throughout the day. Students are to be at Adcock Park by 8.45am. Parents, carers and guardians are welcome to attend. Any students wanting to compete in the 1500m event need to be at the oval ready to race by 8.30am.
Transport
Normal school buses to and from school will run in the morning/afternoon. Boys on buses from the southern end of the coast will be dropped off near McDonald’s at West Gosford. Students are then required to cross the Central Coast Highway at the pedestrian lights immediately outside McDonald’s where a staff member will be stationed to direct them safely across the main road. Please note that students will not be permitted to enter McDonald’s to buy food.
All other students traveling by bus are required to catch their normal bus to the College and they will be directed to make their way to Adcock Park. Staff will be stationed along the way to direct students to the correct and safest crossing points. They will not be permitted to cross at any other points. This is most important for their safety and wellbeing.
Other students may make their own way to the carnival as appropriate. All students requiring afternoon bus transport will return on foot to the College under the close supervision of staff and catch the afternoon school specials as normal.
Uniform
For identification purposes, it is imperative that all St Edward’s students attend the carnival in their College track suit/sports uniform. This is most important so that we can carry out appropriate supervision of all the boys on that day. Senior students who don’t have a sports uniform should wear appropriate sports clothing, possibly in their house colours.
General Directions
As maximum participation is the aim of the day, points will be allocated for every student entering an event.
Boys need to be equally prepared for the weather, especially at this time of the year. There is little protection from the elements at Adcock Park, so boys also need to bring a hat and sun protection cream etc.
The canteen (snacks and drinks only) will be run on the day and cash or debit card will be accepted. There is no facility for use of flexischool accounts at Adcock Park.
The boys are asked not to bring footballs, basketballs or soccer balls with them as there will be no opportunity to use them on the day. The balls can be a hazard on a day such as this.
It is imperative that no student brings along large sums of money or valuable audio equipment etc. In these situations, it is impossible for the College to take responsibility if any items go missing on the day.
In the event of obvious inclement weather, boys would need to come to school prepared for the normal Monday timetable. A posting will be listed on the College Facebook page and the College App. No announcement means the carnival will go ahead.
Parent Attendance
Parents and carers are welcome to attend the carnival.
Parents are asked to stay outside the velodrome throughout the day and support from a distance
Feel free to access the canteen and barbeque facilities.
NB: Students will be released at the conclusion of the carnival at approximately 2.15pm. Parents are asked not to request for their son to leave before the conclusion of the carnival.
During the Carnival
Students will move from event-to-event in their age groups.
At the conclusion of the carnival, with parental/carer discretion, students may:
Be dismissed from Adcock Park to make their own way home. Students making their way home will not be permitted to go to McDonald’s or any other fast-food outlets; they are to go directly home.
Senior students with permission to drive to and from school may drive.
All other students return on foot and under supervision to the College to catch the usual bus services.
The cooperation of boys and their families with these guidelines will ensure that it is an enjoyable day for all in attendance. Under normal circumstances the carnival should conclude by 2.15pm. No boys will be permitted to leave the oval before that time.

ATAR Calculation to Application: A Parent's Roadmap to Uni Entry (youtube.com)
Early offer run-down
UAC applications are off to a strong start, with thousands of Year 12 students having already applied. So it's a good time to set some clear expectations about when they might receive an offer.
The ATAR is still the main selection tool used by the majority of unis. Therefore, most offers to Year 12 students will be made from December Round 2 (23 December) onwards, after the release of ATARs on 18 December.
However, there are other ways for students to show that they’re ready to succeed at tertiary study. This means they may be able to receive an offer to university before ATARs are released.
Offers made through UAC
The first offers to Year 12 students will be made to Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) applicants on 8 November 2024. Offers made then will be based on criteria like Year 11 results and the school's rating of the student. They can be unconditional or conditional offers.
Unconditional offers don't require the student to meet any other criteria (apart from completing Year 12). Conditional offers have additional requirements – usually a minimum ATAR or selection rank.
Before November, offers are made to applicants who are not in Year 12 this year and already have a qualification we can assess. They're often applying to start a course in semester 2.
Offers directly from the institutions
In addition to submitting an SRS application, Year 12 students can apply directly to individual institutions for an early offer. Each institution has different application and offer dates, although no offers will be made before September. All the details are on our website.
