Congratulations to the “St Edward’s Surfers” who during the month of September raised $10,059 for the “Make A Wave” challenge where students and some staff members committed to surfing everyday during the month of September to raise vital funds and awareness for the amazing work that SurfAid does in remote locations of the Indonesian and Solomon Islands.
Collectively the global surfing community raised a total of $529,793.
We will acknowledge the boys and staff who raised money during “Make A Wave” in an upcoming school assembly.

Performing Arts News
The latest news from the Performing Arts Faculty
Drama
Our drama students have been busy honing their performance skills. During Term 3, our Year 9 and 10 Drama class studied monologues. Each student had to select, rehearse, and perform a monologue of their choosing. The choices ranged from well-known films, adaptations of existing comic characters and even an original piece. For many of them, it was their first solo performance which can be a very daunting experience. But all the performers excelled. The boys had five weeks to memorise their lines, refine and rehearse their movement, design their lighting and staging and bring their piece to life. We will be holding a Drama Night later in the term where all students will be performing their monologues.
Music
The end of last term was a very busy and fulfilling term for our HSC Music students who sat for their practical examinations in Week 9. All up there were 51 pieces of music and 1 Viva Voce presented.
We are enormously proud of each of the boys who have worked with enthusiasm and care on their practical skills throughout the year. They were able to celebrate this hard work a few weeks prior to sitting for their examination with a Year 12 Music evening.
It was a fitting evening celebrating their hard work and achievements over the HSC Music course and importantly an opportunity to share their love of music and performance skills with a wider audience. This event was expertly crewed by the Year 11 Entertainment class who did an excellent job on their first big technical crewing assignment.
The atmosphere in the theatre and sense of connection our performers felt as a class supporting their peers was truly very special. I know the parents, families and staff who attended were delighted with the evening. We wish all our Year 12 musicians the very best and hope that whatever career path they take, that music continues to bring them much joy.

Screen and Media
Late last term Year 11 Students attended a Social Media and Content Creation workshop run by Media for Millennials.
Students were treated to a half day entrepreneurial workshop designed to give them the experience of a day in the life of a content creator. Students were taught how to use social media as a business tool and build a digital campaign for Facebook and Instagram on a specific product.
Entertainment
This week Year 11 Entertainment began their work placement with the Skilled Creative in Gosford where they will undertake experiences such as scripting and recording a podcast, live set up and recording of music and filming and editing for content. We are looking forward to hearing all about their forays into an Entertainment Industry setting.
What's Coming Up

The event will be crewed by the Year 11 Entertainment students making this a truly collaborative experience.
We look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday 28 November. Further details will be released closer to the event.

Junior and Intermediate AFL
An unseasonal edition of Australian Football was conducted on our return to Term 4 for the BBSSSA Junior and Intermediate AFL Day.
Junior
The Junior boys started the day with a tough first up match against St Peter’s Catholic College. Despite a slow start, which would prove to be a theme for the day, the boys were highly competitive with a well-drilled St Peter’s outfit. Led by some strong tackling from Noah Debenham in defence the boys had a narrow loss.
Our second game of the day saw us taking on St Paul's Catholic College in a hotly contested match that came down to a last-minute shot at goal for the win. Unfortunately, the boys went down by three points in an impressive display.
Game three had us taking on Mater Maria Catholic College. A strong first half saw the boys with a slight lead going into the break. Increasing wind and a couple of lucky goals against the run of play saw Mater Maria run away with the win.
Our last game of the day saw the boys taking on St Paul's Catholic College in the third-place playoff. A strong start and accurate kicking had us in front by three goals at half time. St Paul’s was kicking with a strong wind at their back in the second half and this was always going to make it difficult for the St Edward's to maintain their lead. Strong defence and some wonderful intercept marking from our backline saw us hold on to a narrow victory, securing a third-place finish and ending the day with a positive win for the boys.
Intermediate
Comprising a blended team of experienced AFL players balanced with players 'giving it a go', the team headed to the Northern Beaches to fly the 'Eddie’s Flag'.
Straight pool play meant every game was a must win and the boys proved that resilience and patience were just as important as skill. All games had the added impediment of a strong headwind that did not let up all day. It meant that the team running into it for the first half needed to keep their opponent close, especially with the quick ten minute halves.
Our first game was against current State Under 15 Finalists St Peter’s Catholic College who were very much up for the challenge. A first up game that saw the scoreline see-saw throughout, and despite not having as many scoring shots, St Edward’s prevailed 3.1.19-2.4.16.
Our next two matches proved to be a bit more open as the players unaccustomed to the game started to get a handle on the skills and techniques required for an open game of AFL. Team defence was an absolute standout, with our backline limiting opposition scoring shots, strong defensive tackles and starving them of possession. A highlight of the day was Archie Price using his body and shoulder to level a player – a clean hit, so good that players from both teams cheered and applauded.
Rounds 2 and 3 saw us prevail against MacKillop Catholic College 6.5.41-1.1.7 and St Paul’s Catholic College 6.4.40-1.0.6.
Our final game was very physical against a very exuberant Mater Maria Catholic College. This game saw many of the other schools stop and watch and the barracking could be heard across Pittwater. Once again the scoreline went back and forth and it wasn’t until late, that the scoreline got away.
A final gala day victory 5.6.36-3.2.20 saw our Intermediate team crowned Champions of BBSSSA.
Thank you to Mr Lord and Mr Le Page for also attending on the day.
