They have explored how villains in literature often offer insight into a society’s deepest fears, and therefore shape views about good and evil, right, and wrong, morality and immorality. The unit included an analysis of a variety of texts such as The Bible, comic books, plays and films. To conclude their study, boys worked in small groups to plan, narrate, sketch, and publish an original comic book depicting conflict between a ‘modern day hero and villain’. They needed to apply the skills they learned throughout the term into comic book format. The boys had a ton of fun throughout the process, and commented that while challenged with time management, drawing, and composing a story, this was one of the best English tasks they’ve completed this year. Well done, boys!
