On 4 April, our two teams took on the mighty Patrician Brothers’ Blacktown in our Annual Rugby League fixture. The first of these friendly games took place 22 years ago and has since become a cherished tradition between the two Colleges—a true highlight of the College calendar and a testament to the strong camaraderie we share.
There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout both games, especially when the crowd erupted with cheers and encouragement. Facing last year’s State Champions is no easy task, but our boys rose to the challenge with determination and pride.
Both matches began strongly for St Edward’s, with powerful charges from the forwards and some slick, well-coordinated play from the backs. This early momentum gave our boys plenty of confidence, and they went on to win the first game. In the second match, our Under 15s started with great spirit and effort. However, as the game progressed, Blacktown’s depth and experience began to shine through, allowing them to dominate both in field position and on the scoreboard.
Despite the outcome, both games were fiercely contested, with tough tackling, structured attack, and impressive skill on display. The commitment, sportsmanship, and spirit shown by all players made for an entertaining and memorable afternoon of rugby league.
At the conclusion of the games, one standout player from each team was recognised for their exceptional performance.
