Hi, I am Kane Howe, a Year 12 Prefect at St Edward’s College and a type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed shortly after my 16th Birthday while I was in Year 10. I had to learn how to, and I’m continually learning how to, deal with diabetes alongside my schooling and outside of school commitments. I never had any senior students to look to for help, inspiration or just for a friendly face at lunch time with my diabetes.
My hope is that no student at St Edward’s will have to deal with diabetes on their own. I wish to offer support to others with diabetes, to have the benefit of my experiences, resources and connections to enable them to live their best lives.
For any student that has any questions or would like to meet face to face to discuss diabetes, I will be available Tuesday mornings during Home Room to meet in Room 60. I encourage you to contact me, Mrs Pearson (Leader of Wellbeing) or Mr Missio-Spiteri (College Counsellor) to arrange a meeting with me.
