We are incredibly proud of our Technology and Applied Studies HSC students who recently submitted their major works in Industrial Technology Multimedia, Metal, and Timber.

The creativity, craftsmanship, and dedication on display were truly remarkable. From metalwork and innovative multimedia projects to beautifully crafted timber pieces, our students have demonstrated exceptional skill and passion in their chosen fields. Congratulations to all involved for their hard work and amazing achievements! After rejecting a night out with friends, the only way to find peace within themselves is music, transporting them to different worlds though various video, animation and audio synchronisation effects.

A single-axle motorcycle trailer designed with practicality and efficiency in mind. It features a built-in trundle tray drawer, perfect for securely storing towing straps, tools, and other essential components needed for both towing and riding. The trailer also boasts a precision-engineered CNC Jerry Can holder, conveniently mounted on the side, providing additional fuel storage for extended journeys.

This HSC Major Timber project features an exquisitely crafted reclining chair inspired by the elegant Parker era of furniture design. Constructed from rich New Guinea Rosewood Hardwood, the chair showcases the natural beauty and durability of this premium material. The design focuses on both aesthetics and comfort, with ergonomically shaped arms that enhance user experience while adding to the chair’s visual appeal. The craftsmanship is highlighted by a meticulous finishing process using natural wax, which brings out the wood’s deep, warm tones and grain patterns, ensuring a beautiful and lasting finish.

This HSC Major Timber project is a handcrafted canoe showcasing a remarkable journey of learning and problem-solving. Made from Western Red Cedar, the canoe reflects the dedication to exploring new woodworking techniques and overcoming challenges. The project involved a diverse range of methods, including the intricate process of laying up timber scantlings. To ensure durability and performance,  fibreglass was used on the canoe, gaining hands-on experience with materials and techniques not previously encountered. The result is a unique and functional canoe that highlights the creativity and perseverance in tackling new challenges.

This HSC Major Timber project features a handcrafted acoustic guitar, reflecting dedication to learning a diverse range of woodworking techniques. Each aspect of the guitar, from the intricately brass-inlaid rosette to the customised headstock, demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The headstock was carefully shaped to meet the anthropometric needs of the user, ensuring both comfort and functionality. The guitar is constructed from a selection of functional timbers chosen for their acoustic properties, contributing to its impressive sound quality. The project highlights hard work and perseverance, as the guitar’s design and construction represent a significant achievement in both artistry and functionality.

This HSC Major Timber project features a beautifully handcrafted outdoor two-seater sofa, skillfully designed to combine aesthetics with comfort. Constructed from New Guinea Rosewood, the sofa showcases meaningful joinery and innovative shaping techniques, particularly in the creation of ergonomically designed armrests that enhance user comfort. The design incorporates thoughtful ergonomic principles to ensure that the sofa provides an inviting and relaxing seating experience. Custom-made cushions were created to complement the rich hues and grain of the Rosewood, integrating seamlessly with the overall design. The project highlights the ability to blend traditional woodworking skills with modern design elements, resulting in a stylish and functional piece of outdoor furniture.

This HSC Major Timber project is a highly functional entertainment unit, meticulously designed to replace an existing piece in the lounge room. The unit features aesthetic joinery, including blind dovetails used in constructing the carcass, showcasing skill in fine woodworking. Handcrafted custom laminated handles and drawer pulls add a unique and personal touch to the design. The entertainment unit is finished with a professional-grade hard wax oil, providing a durable and attractive surface. Designed with careful consideration of the lounge room’s ergonomics and the user’s seating position, the unit accommodates a TV and integrates seamlessly into the space. This project exemplifies the ability to merge functionality with refined craftsmanship, creating a practical and visually appealing piece.

This HSC Major Timber project features a custom-designed hollow timber surfboard, crafted specifically to suit the student’s height, weight, and surfing ability, while catering to the unique conditions of the Central Coast. Constructed from lightweight Paulownia timber, known for its durability and excellent buoyancy, the surfboard balances performance with aesthetics. The fins are meticulously laminated and hand-shaped to align with the board’s design, ensuring optimal performance. The project demonstrates commitment to tailoring the surfboard to both personal and environmental requirements, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern surfing needs.

This HSC Major Timber project features a custom study desk crafted from American Walnut, combining elegance with practical design. The desk showcases unique geometric elements that seamlessly integrate storage drawers, optimising both form and function. The use of a range of appropriate joinery techniques ensures structural integrity and adds a refined touch to the craftsmanship. Designed with careful attention to ergonomics, the desk provides a comfortable and efficient workspace, accommodating the needs of users while supporting healthy sitting posture. The rich tones and grain of the American Walnut further enhance the desk’s visual appeal, making it a standout piece in any study area.
