After arriving at the ground, setting up the field and participating in an intense warm up, the boys were ready to face their opposition unaware of their ability. After winning the toss, St Edward’s backed themselves and decided to bat on a quality pitch. After a nervous start, Thomas Owen (21) and Alexander Bell (31) consolidated an innings that would be beneficial for the upcoming batsmen. Our middle order of Mitchell Stapleford (37), Lachlan Shedden (31) and John James (39) fought diligently, ran well and utilised what the top order gave them to conclude our innings with a total of 199 runs off 45 overs.
St Edward’s knew that if their bowling was tight and they restricted runs in the first 10 overs, they would set themselves up to win the fixture. An outstanding opening spell from Thomas Noble (4-5) and Mitchell Stapleford (3-2) ensured that St Leo’s had no chance of chasing our total. Mitchell Giltinan (1-4), Thomas Owen (1-1) and Alexander Bell (1-0) bowled tight and dismissed St Leo’s for 13 runs off 17 overs. Well done to all involved.
St Edward’s now plays St Paul’s, Manly, date to be advised.
