Academic Awards Ceremony
On Monday 11 December, we took time to celebrate the academic success and wonderful gifts and talents of our boys at St Edward’s. The awards ceremony is designed to acknowledge the application and effort of boys in Years 7-11 throughout the year. Students received awards for Consistent Effort, Academic Achievement and Outstanding Academic Achievement. Boys are nominated to receive these awards by their teachers, and students who receive an Outstanding Academic Achievement have been nominated by most, if not all of their teachers.
Students also received awards in a range of categories including Public Speaking and Debating, Service Learning, Leadership, University of Newcastle Awards for excellence in Science and Mathematics, Sportsman of the Year Award, Innovation and Persistence.
Congratulations to all award winners on their application and effort throughout the year. These boys have challenged themselves to be the best they can be and should feel very proud of their achievements. The following students were the recipients of the major awards.
2023 – A Very Successful Year
As the 70th anniversary year of St Edward’s comes to an end, I wanted to take time to express my deep gratitude to all the St Edward’s teaching and support staff for their contribution to what has been a very successful year. As we reflect on the business of the year, there is much to celebrate.
Through the hard work of many teaching and support staff, we implemented a range of activities to celebrate the 70th year, highlights of which were the current and Old Boy musical performance night and the production of the historical publication, Forever the Black and Red. We moved into our new state-of-the-art science laboratories which were meticulously planned by a team of teaching and support staff. We further embedded the Learner Profile into our reporting to parents and students and commenced the important work of unpacking the College Values with our boys. We celebrated Founders Day in a new format, which proved to be a wonderful community building event. We hosted the Inaugural St Edward’s College Careers Expo. We maintained our commitment to implementing a range of strategies associated with our Reconciliation Action Plan, a highlight being the Aboriginal mural. We participated in the Edmund Rice Education Beyond Borders Global classroom with some of our Year 10 and 11 students connecting with students from St Boniface’s School in the Kimberley region of South Africa.
These are just a handful of the many highlights of which there are far too many to include. These amazing initiatives do not happen without the hard work and dedication of so many teaching and support staff. They have introduced these initiatives while continuing to focus on our core business of providing rich and engaging learning experiences in our classrooms and extra-curricular activities in an environment in which our boys feel safe and cared for.
We are blessed with so many talented, caring and professional teachers and support staff, who work tirelessly to ensure that each student is challenged to be the best they can be. I thank them for everything they do.
I would also like to thank families for your continued support of St Edward’s and your boys. Your ongoing involvement and support of your son’s education is critical in guiding him to reach his potential as a learner and young man. I wish all members of our community a safe and holy Christmas and a happy New Year.
