NSW Curriculum Review
The NSW Education Standards Authority have conducted a preliminary review of the current NSW Curriculum and have identified that there is a need for significant change if we are to truly serve the needs of preparing our young people for meaningful adult employment and effective citizenship in the years ahead. The consultation to date provided teachers with an opportunity to provide feedback about the current curriculum, with some common themes emerging. In particular, it is believed that many syllabuses are overcrowded with content affecting teachers’ ability to engage students in deep learning and skill development in the important areas of critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, creativity and communication. Research is suggesting that these important skills that are required to equip young people for the future. This theme is just one important aspect of the review, which also examines the structure of the curriculum to allow more flexibility in curriculum design and a more integrated Senior School Curriculum.
The teaching staff at St Edward’s welcome this review as we are constantly working collaboratively in providing learning experiences which are engaging, authentic, relevant, rigorous and creative. Our staff will be providing further feedback as part of the ongoing consultation process. Jordan Terzian of Year 11 was invited to participate in a Computer Science and Engineering Course at the UNSW this year based on his outstanding grades he had achieved over the years at St Edward’s.
Jordan was selected from a number of interested students from the Central Coast and as a result was required to travel to the UNSW and attend university level classes every Wednesday afternoon for three hours over a six month period. Eighty students were selected to participate, with only thirty students completing the course.
Jordan was successfully able to balance the demands of his schoolwork with the University course, which is a wonderful achievement and testament to commitment and application to his studies.

Year 12 Graduation
The Year 12 Graduation will be held in the Edmund Rice Centre on Friday November 15th. This event is a wonderful celebration for the graduating class and their families and the culmination of their time at the College. The Edmund Rice Centre is converted into a magnificent ballroom for this event through the tireless efforts of many staff from St Edward’s College. It is always amazing to see how grown up the young men and their partners are on the night, with a highlight of the evening being the mother and son dance. I look forward to this great celebration.
