A lot can happen in a year, a month, a week. Whether it’s your friend, family member, colleague, partner, or teammate, the people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day.
By having regular, meaningful conversations, you build trust and normalise talking about what’s really going on, so when the people in your world find themselves struggling, they know you’re someone they can talk to.
At St Edward’s, we encourage you to Ask R U OK? Any Day of the year because a conversation could change a life. The students celebrated R U OK Week with Jersey Day on Friday 13 September, where students and staff wore their team Jerseys to celebrate the importance of the ‘team approach’ in being prepared to check in on each other, listen with empathy and encourage help-seeking behaviours when life gets hard.
Thanks to all involved, especially members of the Student Leadership Team who pitched the idea for ‘Jersey Day for R U OK’, marketed a campaign and presented at assembly the current statistics on mental health and suicide for young people in Australia and shared personally the transformative impact of asking R U OK?
