Our first match was against St Peter’s Catholic College and from the outset it was clear that we were here to play. Sunny Straker scored a hat-trick of tries, together with Kaiden Regattieri and Nat O’Shea both crossing the line to secure a 29-12 win.
The next game was against St Paul’s Catholic College, Manly and this was our best performance of the day. Tries were scored by Austin Willis, Joshua Marsters, Cooper Djuricin, Damian Coughlan-Berg, Fraser Boake and Kaiden Regattieri. The final score read 38-7; a convincing win.
Next up was the strong Mater Maria Catholic College side and this one went right to the wire, fortunately we came away with a 26-24 win thanks to tries from Austin Willis, Kaiden Regattieri, Sunny Straker, and Saint Levae. This win pitted us against St Brigid’s Catholic College who were the other standout team of the day. We had to play them in a pool match and then the final, so backing up in the scorching heat was always going to be difficult. The pool match ended with a loss of 10-22 (Austin Willis and Cooper Armstong scored tries), but the boys rallied for the final and competed to the dying seconds. Unfortunately, St Brigid’s proved too strong on the day and they won the final 22-17 in what was an entertaining, yet heartbreaking, game of rugby. Tries to Fraser Boake, Cooper Armstrong and Kaiden Regattieri were recorded, yet every single St Edward’s player contributed to the team and represented the school with pride.
