The St Edward’s College Football Academy is entering its sixth week, and the boys are working hard within all Academy activities.

They are improving themselves as footballers and have fully embraced the training program. The commitment and enthusiasm shown by the boys has been exemplary.  The 32 boys from Years 8 and 9 are representing themselves and the College with absolute distinction.

The Academy has been broken into two training groups (Red and Black) which provides players with an opportunity to maximise their development and reach their full potential in this space. Our rigorous program that they have undertaken includes training sessions, specific skills focus, game play tactics and concepts, conditioning, nutrition and competitive matches. Players have engaged in sessions with a football specific focus on combination play, defending 1v1, 2v2 1v2 overload, attacking overloads, attacking at pace, maintaining possession, finishing and compact defensive structures. Most notably, they have participated in training matches against local school and clubs.

The first of these involved our Red group playing Lisarow High School on College Oval #1. Strong play across all areas of the field ensured that our first ever fixture resulted in a good win. A big thanks to the boys from Lisarow High School for coming to our school to play us. Thank you also to the parents, families, teachers, boys and supporters who turned up to watch the match. Congratulations to our goal scorers: Remy Garner (2), Eamon Cassidy, Seb Brocklebank and Ben Hayes.

As the term draws to a close, we are looking forward to hosting more teams at the College, including St Peter’s Catholic College and Terrigal United Football Club. Other fixtures are also in the pipeline. The boys will also be undertaking their coaching and refereeing courses through our associate partners Central Coast Football Association.
