Founder’s Day 2024
31.07.24
This year marks 222 years since Edmund Rice’s remarkable legacy began, and we are excited to celebrate Founder’s Day at St Edward’s College on Friday September 6 (Week 7).

The day will start with a morning Liturgy and Assembly, followed by a series of fun activities designed to bring our community together.

Founder’s Day is our biannual tradition to honour the vision and dedication of our College’s founder, Edmund Rice. It is a time to strengthen our community bonds and reaffirm our commitment to serving others. Edmund Rice’s life serves as an inspiration, reminding us to stand with the disadvantaged, prioritise others, and strive to be kind and compassionate individuals. His example encourages us to promote dignity and respect for all.

Every two years, the College holds a Founder’s Day Celebration, combining fun and fundraising to support Edmund Rice communities in need and to support the education of Frederick Were in Kenya. We kindly request each family to contribute $20 towards this cause. Contributions should be made at the College front office before the beginning of September.

In preparation for the day, homerooms will develop various activities for students to enjoy on Founder’s Day. These activities aim to foster positive relationships and build College spirit. Students are encouraged to volunteer and assist their homeroom teachers in running these activities, which will also allow them to earn Waterford Hours by giving back to the College community. Some of the exciting activities planned include:

  • Fishing Rod Casting Competition
  • Dodgeball Competition
  • Meditation and Mindfulness Sessions
  • ‘Bubble Soccer’
  • Mario Kart Competition in the Theatre

Additionally, there will be inflatable obstacle courses and a Water Tank Machine where students can dunk their favourite teachers.

A BBQ lunch will be provided, but please inform us of any dietary requirements in advance. As there will be limited food stalls this year, we ask that students bring some food from home.
