Over the course of three days, they encountered aspects of life that were previously unfamiliar to them, gaining valuable insights into the challenges of homelessness.
The students visited various significant sites, including The Wayside Chapel, The Jewish Holocaust Museum, Baptist Care, Australian Catholic Mission, St Canice Catholic Church, Oasis (Salvation Army), St Mary’s Cathedral, and multiple outreach centers around the iconic Kings Cross area. They also explored the Needle Exchange and Matthew Talbot Hostel, observing and learning about the stark contrasts between wealth and poverty on the streets of Darlinghurst.
Representatives from Youth of The Streets and L’Arche shared information about the impactful work their organizations do. The St Edward’s community hopes that the lessons learned during these days will leave a lasting impression on the students, inspiring a lifelong commitment to outreach and service to others.
