Edmund Rice Education Australia Touchstone
Liberating Education
As a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice Tradition, we challenge all to prophetic leadership within the school community and beyond.
Prefect Investiture Mass and Announcement of 2024 College Captain and Vice Captains
On Tuesday September 5, we gathered as a community to acknowledge the appointment of the newly elected prefects for 2023/24. We also took time to thank the outgoing Prefects for their wonderful contribution to the life of the College during their term of appointment. They have led the student community with distinction for the past year and should be very proud of all they have achieved.
An important part of the ceremony on Tuesday was the announcement of the 2023/24 College Captain and Vice Captains. These students were selected through a rigorous process of written application and interview by a panel of staff members who work closely with student leaders. It was a great privilege to meet with students who had applied for one of these roles. At the completion of these interviews, I was left with a great sense of excitement about what they will bring to the role. If they are representative of young people today, we can feel assured that our world is in good hands. They are thoughtful, reflective and maintain a great capacity to challenge injustice and model the values that we promote as an Edmund Rice community.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the College Captain for 2023/24 is Juan Jose Rodriguez Caldas and the two Vice Captains are Rex Allwood and Kale Puata.
Edmund Rice Education Australia Cultural Renewal
The College is currently participating in a process of Cultural Renewal which is being facilitated by members of the EREA National office. This is an important initiative which provides valuable feedback for ongoing strategic improvement of the College. Information is being gathered on how St Edward’s is fulfilling its mission as an Edmund Rice School in relation to the four EREA Touchstones of Liberating Education, Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community and Justice and Solidarity.
Student voice is a key component of this process and on Thursday September 7 all students will be provided with the opportunity to participate in an online survey to provide feedback, which will be included as an integral component of the final report. Staff will also complete a similar survey and members of the National Office will spend three days at the College in October interviewing staff, students, members of the College Advisory Council and parents with a view to gain further feedback.
Information gathered will be presented to the College Leadership team in the form of a report which outlines affirmations of how we are responding to the Touchstones and, importantly, recommendations for ongoing improvement. In 2024 time will be devoted to the development of the next phase of the College’s Strategic Improvement Plan.
Calls for Expressions of Interest for the St Edward’s College Advisory Council
The St Edward’s College Advisory Council work collaboratively with the College Senior Leadership Team in providing strategic advice to support sound stewardship aimed at offering the best possible learning communities for young people attending St Edward’s College. The College Advisory Council provides rich sources of wisdom and insight as well as a means of strengthening community links.
Current membership of the St Edward’s Advisory Council includes representatives with expertise and capacity to provide advice in the legal, financial, building, educational, marketing and faith formation domains of the College. The term of appointment of some of the current members will come to an end at the end of 2023 school year. I therefore call for expressions of interest from members of the St Edward’s wider community who may be interested in joining this wonderfully supportive team. Further information regarding the function of the Advisory Council can be obtained from the Charter for EREA School Advisory Councils
Membership of this Council is not limited to members of the community with a direct relationship to the College and families are encouraged to share this information with friends and extended family members who they believe may be able to contribute to this important group.
Expressions of interest can be forwarded to the College via completing the form available at the following link: St Edward’s College School Advisory Council Expression of Interest Form
